Setup AD DNS


Setup Active Directory and DNS




  • Go to server manager>Roles. 





  • Add role>Active Directory domain services. Click Add required features. 







  • Click next>Install. 







  • Click the hyperlink "dcpromo.exe". 







  • Click Next. 







  • Select "Create a new domain in a new forest". 







  • Type in the FQDN for the root domain. EG: MYLAB.COM. 







  • Select the forest functional level as Win Server 2008 R2. 





  • Click Next. 







  • Click yes to continue at the below prompt. 







  • Keep the below configuration, click Next. 







  • Choose a password. EG: asd@123. 







  • Wait until it finishes. 







  • Click Finish. 







  • Restart now. 







  • Type in the password and Login to the domain "MYLAB.com".




    • Once you Login go back to the network icon in system tray and go to IP v4 settings.





    • Change the Preferred DNS back to the original configuration that was setup earlier (automatically it had been changed to the loopback address upon promoting it to DC).





    • Configure the preferred DNS as below.
